MOBILE DENTAL VAN.
Mobile Dental Van
The Children's Aid Society's Mobile Dental Van brings comprehensive dental care to neighborhoods throughout greater New York.
In 1988, The Children's Aid Society established a mobile health unit to bring comprehensive diagnostic, preventive and restorative dental care to children in nothern Manhattan's low-income neighborhoods. Today, the 38-foot Mobile Dental Van, operated in partnership with the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine, travels to Head Start, family child care and elementary school programs to provide on-site dental services to underserved children.
In addition to cleanings, fluoride treatments and fillings, the dentists teach children good oral hygiene and healthy eating habits. Preventive care is stressed, and families establish the habit of seeing a dentist every six months.
